Since the 1990s, brothers Einar and Jamex de la Torre have cultivated a signature style that combines blown glass sculptures, installation, lenticular prints, and wallpaper, among other materials and techniques. Their creative approach is additive, constantly combining and expanding meaning using imagery drawn from a range of influences including Catholic iconography, German Expressionism, Mexican vernacular arts, and Ancient American artifacts. For the McNay, the brothers combine trompe l’oeil wallpaper with lenticular images, transforming the AT&T Lobby wall. In March 2024, the McNay will present a large survey of the brothers’ art, including new artworks created especially for the exhibition.

de la Torre Brothers: Latin Exoskeleton is organized by René Paul Barilleaux, Head of Curatorial Affairs; and Lauren Thompson, Curator of Exhibitions.

Funding is most generously provided by the Elizabeth Huth Coates Charitable Foundation of 1992 and The Flora Chrichton Visiting Artist Fund.
