McNay Response to COVID-19

August 11, 2021 Update:

The health and safety of our visitors and staff is top priority. With the increase in COVID-19 cases, the CDC highly recommends all vaccinated and unvaccinated visitors wear a mask indoors. Thank you, McNay Leadership

June 1, 2021 Update:

Masks and social distancing remain optional for all visitors, including rentals, special events, and vendors. Masks are also optional for fully vaccinated Museum staff when inside the Museum and Museum offices/buildings.

May 13, 2021 Update:

Effective immediately per the latest CDC guidance, masks are now optional for all visitors, including rentals, special events, and vendors. Masks are still required for Museum staff when inside the Museum and Museum offices/buildings until further notice. Social distancing continues to be encouraged for both visitors and staff at this time.

March 3, 2021 Update:

For the safety of our staff and visitors, the McNay will continue requiring the use of face masks for all staff and visitors upon entry into the Museum, per recommendation of the Center for Disease Control (CDC). Our current operating capacity of 50% will remain the same. Visitors are encouraged, but not required, to wear a mask when enjoying the outdoor grounds.

We have worked hard to maintain a clean, comfortable, and safe environment for our staff and guests and will continue to do so. Thank you for supporting the McNay during these unprecedented times.

April 27, 2020 Update:

For the past 66 years, the McNay has been a safe place for our community to experience beauty, solace, healing, and transformation through art. Now more than ever, art museums around the world will play an integral role in the recovery of our communities from these unprecedented times. Although museums have been given permission to open beginning Friday as part of Phase 1 of the state’s reopening plan, the McNay and grounds will continue to remain temporarily closed at this time out of an abundance of caution and care for our visitors and staff.

McNay leadership is formulating and evaluating various reopening scenarios, taking into account external federal, state, and local recommendations as well as guidance from our internal reopening task force. This internal task force has established a set of measures that will help ensure a safe reopening, including but not limited to, identifying a sustained decline of new COVID-19 cases in the San Antonio and Bexar County region.

We will update our website and social media channels with a reopening date as soon as one is determined. We are grateful to the San Antonio community for their support and look forward to welcoming everyone back to the McNay very soon.

 March 16, 2020 Update:

Due to increasing health concerns, we are taking a precautionary measure to maximize social distancing and minimize the potential spread of COVID-19. Beginning today, March 16, at 5 PM, the Museum and grounds will temporarily close until further notice.

We are continuously monitoring the situation and paying close attention to updates and guidelines issued by health officials. Please check our website and social media channels for the latest updates, including our plans to reopen.

We look forward to welcoming our staff and visitors back to the Museum as soon as possible.

March 12, 2020 Update:

Out of an abundance of caution and care for our entire community, the McNay’s public programs and events will be temporarily postponed until further notice.

If any further changes occur, updates will be shared here on our website and social media channels. We are grateful for your support and understanding as we keep the safety of our visitors and staff our top priority.

You can help by following the hygiene guidelines from Bexar County and be mindful that if you or anyone in your household is feeling sick, that you please consider a visit to the McNay at a future time. Please be sure to practice social distancing when visiting the Museum.
